Event Date: September 15, 2019 To December 02, 2019
Have you seen small children in rags begging on the streets in India?
I grew up in Kolkata, India and I’ve seen them ever since I was a child myself. I don’t remember how I felt at that time but it breaks my heart when I see them now! I realize that the only difference between me and them is the privilege of being born in a better family. I had parents and my parents owned a home and had a job. I did not go hungry, I was not beaten or sexually abused. I did not have to beg for food or work in a dark dingy restaurant or at a construction site. I went to school, I had books. We had electricity. We thought that it was intelligence and hard work that got me into college. Now I know that luck was a necessary factor.
Globally, about 400 million children are living in extreme poverty, about a 120 million in India. Don’t they deserve a chance at what we take for granted, a joyous childhood? To develop their potential? Are they not the future of India and indeed the future of our world?
It is easy to be overwhelmed by the size of the problem but the cure is action! CRY America is making progress every year in touching more of these innocent lives and bring light into their otherwise dark existence. Please join us again this year in CRY Boston’s Walk for Child Rights 2019! This year you can walk/run at your favorite location ideally with your family or your own team of walkers/runners.
We invite you to donate generously in support of child rights while also improving your fitness!
Thank you so much!
