Protecting India’s Future

Imagine waking up as a 10 year old child to your mother yelling “You’re late! You have to get up now or the bus will leave without you!”. Pretty normal right? But the bus this child might not catch is not going to take him/her to school but rather accompanying his father to work either at a factory, a store or maybe even a farm for the day.

‘What about school?’ you may ask. ‘What about the risk of Covid-19 that is killing millions around the world?’. Those are the last things on these families’ minds. All that they are thinking about is putting food in their mouths and a roof over their heads. 

This is just one of the many scenarios that are taking place in underprivileged households all across India. 514 million children have dropped out of school after the pandemic has started mainly because they need to support their families.

Helping these children is not just a nice thing to do but it is our duty, being more privileged. It is our duty to help them get their education. It is our duty to help them put food in their mouths and a roof over their heads. It is OUR DUTY to let them be children and not have to worry about where they are going to get their next meal from.

I first heard about CRY when I was in the 8th grade (2017) when I was working on a research project. They have brought upon so much change in India and being a part of that change is an honor.
