Hello! My name is Adam and I am a longtime volunteer-turned full-time Grants Manager for CRY America!
I have been working with CRY America since 2004, and I have been fortunate enough to have traveled through India several times on my own over the past 15 years. CRY America’s mission is near and dear to me. I’m inspired by the dedication of our NGO partners who work tirelessly in the field, and the joy of the children and families who we have been honored to help. When I have found myself back “in the desh,” I’ve made it a point to take every opportunity to visit CRY America-supported projects.
As a witness to the dramatic, positive effects that confidence and awareness of rights engenders in the children CRY America helps, I can say with certainty that our model for change works. I’ve met children from a Kolkata slum, who started their own magazine featuring articles, artwork and poems about the importance of education and the ills of child labor in their community. And recently, I had the opportunity to spend time with Lalithamma of project PORD, an organization that is doing amazing work in rural Andhra Pradesh to protect children – girls, especially – from being forced into child marriage and child labor. Lalithamma shared the story of a girl named Revathi, whose journey from being at-risk of missing out on an education to becoming an employee of telecommunications giant Wipro has made her a shining star of PORD’s work. You can find out more about PORD in the linked video.
Please join me in making brighter futures possible for underprivileged and marginalized kids by participating in Washington, DC’s event on the amazing Mount Vernon Trail. Let’s take in views of our nation’s capital and the stunning Potomac river as we Walk (or Run, or Bike!) for Child Rights!
